KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has expedited consultations with party central members as part of his preparations to vie for the party top post in the 14th general convention.
Deuba has initiated discussions with the central members of Bagmati Province at his residence at Budhanilkantha from Sunday.
Sources said that Deuba has been “wooing and convincing” the party central members to support his candidacy in the general convention to be held from September 1 to 4 later this year.
Likewise, NC President Deuba is scheduled to hold discussions with the central members of Gandaki Province on Sunday afternoon.
Meanwhile, as many as 800,000 active members of the party are participating in the party’s 14th General Convention.
Of them, 380,000 are old active members while 420,000 are new members.
The NC has, meanwhile, decided not to renew the active memberships of the party members who posed themselves as rebel candidates against the official candidates fielded by the party.
The party has not renewed the active memberships of several cadres. Nepali Congress has given June 23 deadline to those districts that have delayed submitting the details of the active members, according to Keshav Rijal, the secretary of the Central Active Membership Investigation Committee.
