PCR tests not mandatory for voters: EC

KATHMANDU: PCR tests for Covid-19 are not mandatory for voters for their participation in the by-elections to the National Assembly.

However, separate arrangements have been made for Covid-19 infected voters, said the Election Commission.

This decision aims for voters to exercise their right to vote under any pretext, said election officer Dilli Ratna Shrestha.

Eligible voters include members of Bagmati Province Assembly and chiefs and deputy chiefs of local levels. Voting begins at 9 am and ends at 3 pm.

In the by-elections, Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa from the ruling CPN (UML), Krishna Gopal Tamang from the Nepal Workers Peasants Party, and independent candidate Khim Lal Devkota are vying.

Minister Thapa accompanied by UML leaders including Krishna Gopal Shrestha, Gokul Prasad Baskota, and Krishna Bahadur Rai among others Wednesday reached Hetauda for the by-elections.
