CIB nabs two men including a Russian for fraud

KATHMANDU: Police have arrested two individuals including a foreigner for defrauding people with false assurances that green coffee would reduce their weight.

Acting on a tip-off, the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police arrested 42-year-old Ashish Acharya of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-17, Naya Bazaar and Russian Citizen Igor Kutsh, 30.

Acharya is the proprietor of Team One Suppliers.

Acharya had published a misleading advertisement saying that the regular consumption of green coffee would reduce obesity.

In the advertisement published on social networking site, Acharya had said the regular consumption of green coffee would reduce 13 kilograms of weight without dieting, physical exercises and side effect, thereby swindling customers of millions of rupees.

Meanwhile, the CIB team raided the storehouse of the suppliers and seized a large amount of green coffee.

According to police, 12 sacks of green coffee weighing 644 kg each, 2,822 packets of green coffee, each one weighing 100 grams, letter pads and two sets of CPU, among others.

Similarly, two passports and Rs 397,000 in cash and two sets of mobile phone were recovered from the Russian national’s room.

A preliminary investigation of the police has shown that they used to procure green coffee for Rs 960 per kilogram and sell it for Rs 20,000 to 40,000 per kg in various parts of the country.
