Ruling coalition forms three-member task force to discuss MCC with other political parties

KATHMANDU: The ruling coalition has formed a three-member task force to discuss the United States-backed Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) with other political parties and reach an understanding.

An agreement to this end was reached at Prime Minister and Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba-convened meeting of the ruling coalition on Sunday afternoon.

The task force includes senior CPN (Unified Socialist) leader Jhala Nath Khanal, Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki and CPN (Maoist Center) Vice Chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha.

The task force is entrusted various responsibilities from convening parliament session to holding necessary consultations and discussions with parliamentary parties regarding the various issues, under consideration in the parliament.

Senior NC leader Ram Chandra Poudel, Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka, Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and vice president Shrestha, CPN-Unified Socialist Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal and general secretary Beduram Bhusal, Janata Samajbadi Party Federal Council Chairman Dr. Baburam Bhattarai and Chairman Upendra Yadav were present at the meeting of the ruling coalition.

After the meeting of the five-party ruling coalition, an all-party meeting was held.

According to Keshav Raj Joshi, legal advocate of Prime Minister Deuba, the meeting focused on ending the stalemate in the parliament and moving ahead with the issues under consideration in the parliament. The main opposition party CPN-UML was absent from today’s meeting.
