KATHMANDU: The counting of votes for Nepali Congress’ (NC) open central members has been completed as part of the 14th general convention.
The NC Election Committee informed that the counting of votes was completed. “We have completed the counting of votes and are preparing to declare final results,” said the party’s poll panel.
Under the NC’s 14th general convention, election was held for 134 central members, including 13 office bearers, last Monday. Earlier, the NC poll panel declared vote count results of 13 office bearers. Two central members were also elected unopposed.
The vote count for 35 seats for central members (open category) concluded Sunday evening. As many as 99 candidates vied for the 35 seats.
Top 35 candidates securing the highest number of votes will be elected NC central members under the open category.
Outgoing NC General Secretary Dr. Shashank Koirala had received the highest – 2,442 votes – till 3 pm Sunday. Similarly, NP Saud had got 1,896 votes till then.
Most candidates likely to be elected under 35 seats are from NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba panel. Leaders, including Jit Jung Basnet, Rajib Dhungana, Uday Shumsher Rana, Guru Baral and Kundan Raj Kafle were ahead in the vote count from the Deuba panel earlier in the day.
