KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) leaders aspiring for the post of party President, Prakash Man Singh and Shekhar Koirala have held a meeting at Singh’s residence in Chaksibari, Thamel, Friday afternoon.
Leader Singh, who has been attacking senior leaders of Ram Chandra Poudel faction and members of the Koirala family, has been maintaining distance with other leaders.
As NC leader Singh expedited his campaign for party presidency, various leaders have been holding talks with him to forge consensus on a common candidate to challenge incumbent President Sher Bahadur Deuba in the general convention. Earlier Thursday, senior leader Poudel met with leader Singh.
Singh and Koirala last met on Wednesday in Biratnagar in the course of campaigning for their candidacies. Koirala had been in Biratnagar and arrived Kathmandu Friday morning.
In the afternoon, he paid a visit to leader Singh at his residence in Chaksibari.
It is learnt that they discussed power sharing deal, urging each other to support in the race for presidency.
Koirala offered former general secretary Singh to make the prime minister when the party gets a chance to lead the government and asked his help in the race for NC presidency. Stating he had already prepared for the presidency, Singh also put forth a similar proposal to Koirala.
The two have built an understanding to continue holding talks until a consensus candidate is finalized.
Half a dozen leaders are aspiring for NC presidency. From the establishment side, President Deuba is preparing for re-election while Vice President Bimalendra Nidhi also announced his candidature for the post. Senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel, General Secretary Dr. Shashank Koirala, former General Secretary Singh and central member Koirala are aspiring for leadership.
