UK govt ready for talks, Ex-British Gurkhas end hunger strike



KATHMANDU: The British government has agreed to form a two-nation talks team to discuss the demands of ex-Gurkha soldiers, who were staging hunger strike outside the British Prime Minister’s Office for the past 13 days, Thursday.

British Minister of Defense, People and Veterans Leo Dochardi and Nepali Ambassador to the UK Lok Darshan Regmi offered juice to ex-British Gurkhas Gyan Raj Rai, Pushpa Ghale and Dhan Gurung. The ex-British Gurkhas had staged a fast unto death demanding equal pension rights.

Earlier, a letter of commitment from the British Minister of Defense was read out to those on strike. The commitment letter mentioned that a bilateral dialogue team of Nepal and the United Kingdom would be formed to resolve the issue of the Gurkhas by having their representatives as well.
