Active members reach 800,000 as NC gears up for 14th Gen Con



KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) has imposed a restriction on the renewal of active memberships for the 14th General Convention of the party.

The party has decided not to renew the active memberships of those who posed themselves as rebel candidates against the official candidates fielded by the party.

The Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting of the party has decided to hold the 14th General Convention on September 1-4, in which 800,000 active members are participating.

Of them, 380,000 are old active members while 420,000 are new members

The active memberships of many cadres have not been renewed.  The party has given June 23 deadline to those districts who have delayed to submit the details of the active members, said Keshav Rijal, the secretary of the Central Active Membership Investigation Committee.

Pradesh, district, regional, local units have been directed to send the details within the extended deadline.

However, the active memberships of those who filed a candidacy against the official candidates in any levels will not be renewed, said Rijal. Similarly, the proposers and seconders will also be denied active memberships.

Likewise, the NC has initiated investigation on the complaints filed against the memberships and that the investigation committee will submit the details to party President Sher Bahadur Deuba by July 4.

President Deuba then will submit the details to the party’s Central Election Committee by July 14.

Once this process is over, the 14th General Convention will begin.

Ward convention of the rural municipalities and municipalities will be held on July 28 and rural and municipal convention has been scheduled for July 31.

Similarly, Pradesh Assembly regional convention has been scheduled for August 4, regional (in the district with one constituency) convention on August 7 and regional convention in the districts with more than one constituency on August 10.

The 14th general convention will be held on September 1-4.
