PM Oli urges to cast votes for Thapa in NA by-elections

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chairman and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has urged all the concerned to cast their votes for the official candidate of the party Ram Bahadur Thapa alias Badal.

Issuing a press note on Wednesday, Prime Minister Oli appealed to cast votes for Thapa saying that he is the senior leader of the communist movement in Nepal and that his victory will help bolster unity among the communists.

Meanwhile, Oli has also warned that the party will take action against those who violate the party whip.

“Fielding a rebel candidate against an official candidate of the party is to undermine the election symbol ‘Sun’ which has already won the hearts of millions. Such kind of attitude is not acceptable for any party that upholds a multi-party democratic governing system,” said Oli, warning of strong action against those who violate the party whip.

The UML on Monday issued a whip calling to cast votes in favor of party candidate Thapa in the Nationaly Assembly (NA) by-election of Bagmati Pradesh.

Issuing a party whip, UML Generally Secretary Ishwar Pokharel on Monday directed all the concerned to cast votes in the election symbol of the party ‘sun’ in the NA by-lection to be held on May 20.

Dr Khim Lal Devkota, who is considered close to the Nepal-Khanal faction, has been jointly fielded by Nepali Congress (NC), CPN (Maoist Center and Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) against Thapa.

Oli has issued an appeal presuming that the UML leaders may breach the party whip.

Krishna Bahadur Tamang from Nepal Workers and Peasants Party (NWPP), Ram Bahadur Thapa alias Badal from UML and Dr Khim Lal Devkota as an independent candidate are contesting the by-elections of the National Assembly on Thursday.

According to the Election Commission (EC), 348 people’s representatives –110 Provincial Assembly members and 238 chiefs and deputy chiefs of local units — will cast votes in the NA by-lections in Bagmati Pradesh tomorrow.
