Vote can be cast with citizenship certificate and national ID card in NA member poll



KATHMANDU: An arrangement has been made for the voters to cast their vote in the by-election of National Assembly member to be held in Bagmati Province on May 20 by showing voter identity cards issued earlier in different elections, citizenship card, or national ID card.

The voters included in the final voters’ roll can also cast their votes based on the certificate of being elected to the province assembly member, rural municipality chair or vice-chair, and mayor or deputy mayor of the municipality.

Election Commission Spokesperson Raj Kumar Shrestha shared that those eligible can cast their votes on the basis of voters’ ID card issued in the run-up to the elections of local level, House of Representatives and province assembly member election and by-election, 2076 BS, citizenship certificate, and national ID card.

The EC has already directed the returning officers to make arrangements for voting by tallying with the final list of the voters.

Silence period be strictly followed: EC

The silence period has come into effect for the by-election purpose since last midnight (12.00).

The commission has drawn the attention of the political parties and the candidates that their publicity campaign should be stopped and the election publicity materials put up in the distance of 300 meters from the polling centers should be removed before the silence period begins.

Even election publicity through SMS, Facebook, Viber, and other electoral medium has also been banned, the EC said, urging all the candidates and political parties not to published or disseminate any news or information during the period.
