Bangalore beats Kolkata to top IPL points table



KATHMANDU: Royal Challengers Bangalore has climbed atop the points table by defeating Kolkata Night Riders by 39 runs in an Indian Premier League cricket match held in Chennai on Sunday.

This is the third consecutive victory clinched by Bangalore. With this win, Bangalore has a total of six points from three games.

Kolkata was restricted to paltry 166 runs while chasing the 205-run target set by Bangalore, at the cost of eight wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

Kolkata’s Andre Russell made the highest 31 runs followed by Eoin Morgan with 29 runs while Shakib Al Hasan contributed 26 runs.

In reply, Bangalore’s Kely Jamieson took three wickets of Kolkata, while Harshal Patel and Yuzvendra Chahal claimed two wickets each.

Earlier, electing to bat first after winning the toss, Bangalore notched up 204 runs losing four wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

Bangalore’s Glenn Maxwell top-scored with 78 runs off 49 balls followed by Villiers with 76 runs and remained unbeaten.

This is the second loss of Kolkata in the ongoing IPL. It has scored only two points from three matches.
