Noted librarians Shanti-Narayan’s collection of books donated to central library



KATHMANDU: Narayan Mishra has donated a collection of books worth amounting to Rs 3 million to the Tribhuvan University Central Library.

The books jointly collected by Mishra and his wife the late Shanti Shrestha throughout their career as librarians were donated to the central library.

Shanti Shrestha Mishra was the creator and founder librarian of the Library, and Narayan Mishra was also a librarian who was instrumental in creating and developing the Library.

The collection of books is being displayed in the Library in the name of the Shanti Narayan Collection.

As per the late Shanti Mishra’s consent, the collection provided by her husband was inaugurated by the Rector of the TU Shiva Lal Bhusal, amidst a function on Friday.

The collection of books donated to the Library is on library science, Nepal and Nepali, government, politics, history, religion and culture, Nepali literature, English literature, development and construction, biographies of dignitaries, science, and technology, education system, dictionary, and Encyclopedia, among others.

The total number of books donated to the Library counts 1670. The collection also includes five copies of each book authored by the Mishra couple. Besides, Narayan Mishra also handed over the International Library Movement Award received by Shanti Mishra from India for her extraordinary contribution to the library sector and other awards for their remarkable contribution to the library service.

Mishra also donated four steel book racks, one wooden book rack and an office table, and one chair to the Library. Rector Bhushal and Chief Liberian Purna Lal Shrestha expressed their happiness and gratitude to the Mishra couple on behalf of the University and Library.

Narayan Mishra, on the occasion, expressed his joy for donating the collection and their honorary certificates to the Library.

He said they earned a good name and fame by serving the Library with complete devotion and dedication. He also expressed his desire to increase this collection in the future as well.
