Women’s T20: Nepal makes historic clean sweep against Qatar

DOHA: Nepali Women’s Cricket Team on Thursday completed a historic 3-0 clean sweep against Qatar by recording a 109 runs victory.

Earlier, Nepal had captured the series by winning two games in a row.

Nepal won the first match by 119 runs and the second match by 61 runs.

The Nepali women’s team, which won the first international T20 series, has made another history by pocketing the series by 3-0.

Choosing to bat first after winning the toss in Doha, Nepal added 164 runs losing 3 wickets in the allocated 20 overs.

Sita Ranamagar added 82 runs for Nepal. Sita, who holds the record for most runs scored in a T20I for Nepal, hit seven fours in 72 balls. Opener Kajal Shrestha was dismissed for 7 while Jyoti Pandey contributed 24 runs and Dolly Bhatt contributed 12 runs.

Similarly, Sarita Magar added 17 not out off 11 balls. Chasing the target of 165 runs, Qatar could score only 55 runs losing 7 wickets in 20 overs. Alina Khan and Aisa contributed 19 and 13 runs respectively for Qatar.

Other batters for Qatar could not score runs in double digits.

Nepal’s Sabnam Rai, Saraswati Chaudhary, and captain Rubina Chhetri took 1-1 wickets

. Four batsmen from Qatar were run out by Nepal. Nepal has played a three-match series against Qatar before the T20 Women’s World Cup Asia qualifiers.

The team will leave for the UAE to compete in the Asia qualifying event for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.

In the World Cup Qualifier, Nepal will compete with UAE, Bhutan, Kuwait, Hong Kong, and Malaysia. From the selection, a high-scoring team will reach the next level.
