KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) has dismissed 29 writ petitions filed against the dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR) on Wednesday.

The Constitutional Bench of the SC decided to dismiss the writ petitions related to the dissolution of HoR at the recommendation of then Prime Minister KP Oli.

According to SC sources, the Bench comprising Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana and Justices Deepak Kumar Karki, Meera Khadka, Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada and Dr. Anand Mohan Bhattarai dismissed the remaining writs citing that  SC has already given a verdict on similar writ.

Earlier, the SC had given verdict in favor of the writ petitions against the dissolution of the HoR and directed Office of the President to appoint Sher Bahadur Deuba, then opposition alliance leader, as a Prime Minister as per Article 76 (5) of the Constitution.

Earlier, both Prime Minister KP Oli and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba had staked a claim for the post of the Prime Minister under Article 76 (5). President Bidya Bhandari turned down both the claims and dissolved the HoR.

Following the dissolution of the HoR, NC President Deuba filed a writ petition with the signatures of 146 lawmakers at the Supreme Court.

The HoR was dissolved for the second time upon the recommendation of the Council of Ministers on May 22.
