Nepal to stay ‘neutral’ on Afghanistan’s latest political development



KATHMANDU: The government has adopted a policy of remaining neutral in the event of the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan.

Speaking at the Parliamentary Committee on Law, Justice and Human Rights on Wednesday Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand informed that the government has adopted a policy of remaining “neutral” on the Afghan issue.

“Nepal has adopted a policy of remaining neutral in the latest coup d’état in Afghanistan,” Home Minister Khand said, adding, “We are closely monitoring the situation there.”

He also assured that the government is working seriously to repatriate Nepali nationals living in Afghanistan.

According to Minister Khand, officially, there are currently 1,500 Nepalis in Afghanistan.

‘The government is working hard to repatriate Nepalis there. Officially, 1,500 citizens are reported to be there. We are collecting the details of the citizens who arrived unofficially,” he said.

Home Minister Khan also informed that letters have been sent to the United States, Japan and other countries to help rescue Nepali nationals stranded in Afghanistan.
