India PM Modi congratulates PM Deuba

Says, “I look forward to working with you”

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi has congratulated his Nepali counterpart Sher Bahadur Deuba for his appointment as Nepal’s new Prime Minister.

Taking to Twitter on Sunday, Prime Minister Modi has said; “Congratulations and best wishes for a successful tenure.”

PM Modi has further stated, “I look forward to working with you to further enhance our unique partnership in all sectors, and strengthen our deep-rooted people-to-people ties.”

Prime Minister Modi’s congratulatory message comes soon after Sher Bahadur Deuba secured the vote of confidence in parliament Sunday.

Prime Minister Deuba garnered 165 votes in his favor and 83 against in Sunday’s second session of the House of Representatives. Likewise, one lawmaker remained neutral.

A total of 249 lawmakers were present in the Parliament in Sunday’s voting.

Deuba needed the support of at least 138 lawmakers to win the parliament’s confidence.

The parliament sat for the first time Sunday after Supreme Court reinstated it and ordered to make Nepali Congress (NC) President Deuba the prime minister, ruling in favor of a petition filed by 146 lawmakers.

In addition, 26 lawmakers of UML’s Madhav Kumar Nepal faction also entrusted PM Deuba with the confidence vote.
