Ninth session of National Assembly begins



KATHMANDU: The ninth session of the National Assembly (NA) has commenced from Sunday.

NA Chairperson Ganesh Prasad Timilsina read out a letter in this regard sent by the President. Timilsina also read out a separate letter regarding appointment of Nepali Congress (NC) President and NC Parliamentary Party (PP) leader Sher Bahadur Deuba to the post of the prime minster and cabinet expansion sent by the Office of the President.

Two minute-long silence was observed respecting the known and unknown martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the sake of democracy, and republic.

After the commencement of the session, NC lawmaker Radheshyam Adhikari asked the government to give continuity to effective management of vaccine against COVID-19 to control the risk as ratio of COVID-19 infection rate was increasing. He also urged the government to carry out further effective moves in order to provide relief, rescue and arrangement of resettlement of the victims of natural disasters.

Similarly, Suman Raj Pyakurel of the CPN-UML argued that the Supreme Court (SC) decision making the party system weak has raised question over the rule of law. He further said that obstacles were created to effectively implement the activities put forth by the erstwhile government.

Likewise, leader of the CPN (Maoist Centre) Dinanath Sharma urged all the political parties to resolve problems taking place in the country by developing the culture of consensus and collaboration. He argued that the SC’s verdict on July 12 to protect Constitution has a long-term importance.
