JSP to give vote of confidence to Deuba government

HoR's Sunday session witnesses confusion in JSP

KATHMANDU: Citing that Prime Minister and Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba agreed to address their agenda, Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Mahantha Thakur faction has also decided to support the NC led government.

JSP Chairman Upendra Yadav faction has been part of the alliance led by Deuba since long and declared their vote of confidence to Deuba early on.

Although disputing whether to join the government for long, the JSP lawmakers made a sight in the parliament Sunday by sitting in separate rows in the first session of parliament and later sitting together in the second session.

Formerly, JSP’s Yadav faction had opposed the then government led by CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli whereas another Chairman Mahantha Thakur faction had supported and joined the government.

Unfortunately, the JSP ministers could not retain ministerial post even for three weeks when then ex-PM Oli appointed them.

In the first sitting of the House of Representatives (HoR) after the restoration today, Federal Council Chairman Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, Chairman Yadav and other lawmakers of their faction had joined the ruling party’s row whereas the lawmakers of Thakur faction had joined the opposition row.

JSP has got 32 lawmakers. With 61 lawmakers of NC and 49 lawmakers of CPN-Maoist Center, PM Deuba has reached the position to secure vote of confidence even without formal support from CPN-UML’s Khanal-Nepal faction.
