NC parliamentary party meeting underway in New Baneshwor



KATHMANDU: The meeting of the Nepali Congress (NC) parliamentary party (PP) has begun at the federal parliament building in New Baneshwor Sunday afternoon.

The meeting began at around 3 pm, an hour late than planned, NC leader and Law Minister Gyanendra Bahadur Karki said.

The meeting is discussing the NC’s role in the parliament in NC’s first PP meet taking place for the first time after party President Sher Bahadur Deuba became prime minister. PM Deuba is also preparing to seek a vote of confidence in the parliament session later Sunday.

The NC has 61 lawmakers, Maoist Center has 49, JSP 17 lawmakers from Upendra Yadav faction and the Rastriya Janamorcha has one lawmaker in the parliament.

The Madhav Kumar Nepal faction of the CPN-UML also decided to give its vote to PM Deuba, and the Maoist parliamentary party also took a decision to this effect. Earlier, 26 members of the Nepal faction had supported Deuba’s claim for the PM’s post as per Article 76 (5) of the constitution.
