KATHMANDU: The Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court (SC) has issued an interim order not to implement the government’s plan to extraction and export of river products such as stone, ballast and sand.

The government had brought the scheme through the budget of fiscal year 2021/22.

A constitutional bench comprising Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Rana, Justices Deepak Kumar Karki, Mira Khadka, Harikrishna Karki and Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha issued the interim order barring the government from implementing its plan on Friday.

A writ petition was filed in the apex court demanding non-implementation of the government’s decision to export stone, ballast, sand and other minerals to reduce the trade deficit.
