CM Nepali wins vote of confidence in Gandaki

KATHMANDU: Newly appointed Chief Minister of Gandaki Province Krishna Chandra Nepali Pokharel has secured the confidence of the provincial assembly (PA).

Of the total 58 lawmakers present, 31 voted for CM Pokharel and 27 voted against him at the PA session Friday.

With this, the transition of government has taken place in the province where the past months saw political turbulence.

There are 15 lawmakers from the ruling Nepali Congress, 11 from the CPN-Maoist Center, 27 from the CPN-UML, two from the Rastriya Janamorcha, two from the Janata Samajwadi Party and one independent lawmaker Deepak Manange alias Rajeev Gurung in Gandaki PA. With Rastriya Janamorcha lawmaker Krishna Thapa’s dismissal from the post, the PA has now 59 members now.

Speaker Netra Nath Adhikari had allowed CM Pokharel to table the confidence motion as soon as the provincial meeting started Friday in line with Article 168 (6) of the Constitution.

Tabling the confidence motion in the PA meeting, CM Pokharel had recalled that his government has introduced the policy and programs and brought the budget for the fiscal year 2021/22 since appointment as the Chief Minister one week ago.
