KATHMANDU: Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) leaders, including Chairman Upendra Yadav, have reached the Election Commission (EC) Friday to claim the legitimacy of the faction in the party.

A meeting of the Executive Committee Thursday had decided to approach the EC again to claim legitimacy.

The Yadav-led faction had expelled four leaders of the rival faction led by another Chairman Mahanta Thakur from the party and had submitted an application to the EC to update the action in the party’s registration book. That same day, Thakur also handed over a letter of expulsion to Yadav and accordingly sent the decision to the EC.

The EC had decided to reject both sides’ demand of updating the party registration book, citing the actions as invalid.

JSP Yadav faction is approaching the EC again Friday pursuant to Article 43 of the Political Parties Act.
