JAJARKOT: The condition of seven persons who went missing in the Jaljala highlands of the district after a rainstorm is still not known.
They had gone to the alpine meadow in Jaljala on Tuesday for grazing their livestock. Those missing are 35-year-old Dil Bahadur Khadka, 25-year-old Bikram Khadka, 28-year-old Chandra Khadka, 18-year-old Bhawindra Khadka, 12-year-old Mim Khadka, 17-year-old Dhanasara Khadka and 40-year-old Krishna Rokaya of Aaularija, Kushe Rural Municipality, ward number 8 and 9.
Although a police team along with locals has been mobilised to the incident site, the rescue team has not been able to reach the site, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Madhu Kumar Thapa, said. Four persons who survived the rainstorm had informed the police about the incident.
They are 44-year-old Bhakta Bahadur Rokaya, 10-year-old Ishwor Rokaya, 14-year-old Durga Rokaya and 55-year-old Ganga Khadka. Police said 22 cows, 10 buffaloes and 50 goats perished in the rainstorm that lashed Jaljala highlands on Tuesday.
The incident was reported to the police only on Wednesday morning and the rescue team was mobilised immediately. It is said the members of the rescue team have reached up to Bhainsiodar on the way to Jaljala but have fallen ill due to altitude sickness, Chief District Officer Prem Prasad Devkota said.
It is five hours trek from there to reach Jaljala, according to locals. Jaljala is at an altitude of 4,800 metres above the sea level.
