By-election needs to be held within 35 days in Badal’s place

KATHMANDU: A by-election has to be held in the place of Ram Bahadur Thapa “Badal” who has lost his seat in the National Assembly.

According to the National Assembly Member Election Act 2075 BS, if the term of office of a NA member remains vacant for more than six months, by-election should be held within 35 days of vacancy.

National Assembly (NA) Speaker Ganesh Prasad Timilsina had vacated Badal’s parliamentary seat on Sunday as per a letter from the CPN-Maoist Center.

Along with the post of MP, Badal’s post of Home Minister has also automatically become vacant.

Badal was elected a member from Bagmati Pradesh representing the CPN-Maoist Center.
