Nepal-Khanal group to boycott Oli-called UML PP meeting

KATHMANDU: The Khanal-Nepal faction of ruling CPN-UML has said it will boycott the parliamentary party (PP) meeting called by Chairman and Prime Minister (PM) KP Oli on Thursday.

UML Chief Whip Bishal Bhattarai has called the meeting at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar for 11 am.

Prime Minister Oli is holding multiple such meetings in a bid to attract lawmakers from Khanal-Nepal faction at a time the UML’s intra-party feud has taken a new height, said UML sources.

The ruling party has been divided after the Supreme Court (SC) on March 7 revoked unification of the then CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center) as the Nepal Communist Party (NCP).

The dispute intensified further after Oli held a central committee meeting of his faction on March 12 and unilaterally took away responsibilities of leaders of the Khanal-Nepal faction and nominated 23 former leaders including Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa to the central committee of the CPN-UML.
