Oli faction urges Prachanda-Nepal faction to withdraw no-confidence motion in Province 1



BIRATNAGAR: Chief Minister of Province 1 Sherdhan Rai has urged the Prachanda-Nepal faction of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) to withdraw take back the no-confidence motion registered against him.

Chief Minister Rai urged the dissident faction to withdraw the motion and wait for the Nepali Congress’s decision during a meeting aimed at resolving the dispute before the meeting of the provincial assembly scheduled for Sunday.

The meeting was participated by Internal Affairs Minister Hikmat Karki and lawmaker Bimal Karki of the Oli faction of the NCP; Jeevan Ghimire, Indra Bahadur Angbo and Laxman Tiwari represented the Prachanda-Nepal faction in Biratnagar on Thursday.

The Prachanda-Nepal faction, meanwhile, said that the motion can be withdrawn only if Chief Minister Rai withdrew the suspension of 16 lawmakers.

It should be recalled that as many as 37 lawmakers of the Prachanda-Nepal faction had registered the no-confidence motion against Chief Minister Rai proposing Bhim Acharya as the next Chief Minister. The ruling NCP has 67 members in the 93-strong provincial assembly.
