NOC stops imports of petroleum products from Raxaul Depot

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has decided to stop the import of petroleum products from Raxaul Depot.

The Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) had been citing problems with the operation of the depot for more than two years,

Stating that the IOC has been informing about the problem for a long time, the corporation has decided to stop the import of petroleum products from the depot.

After the decision to close the depot agreements have been made for petroleum businessmen from Bara and Parsa who were importing petroleum products from Raxaul Depot to purchase at the NOC Province 2 Office, said NOC Spokesperson Binit Mani Upadhyaya.

According to him, the authorized sellers of petroleum products, who had been billing from the Birgunj branch office of the corporation after taking load from Raxaul checkpoint, now have to collect and bill petroleum products from the provincial office.

After some confusion arose regarding the new arrangement implemented by the corporation, discussions were held between the team from the corporation’s central office and the Bara-Parsa Petroleum Dealers Association and the local administration.

It is said that there will be no easy supply of petroleum products and the cost of the corporation will increase until the Motihari-Amlekhgunj Petroleum Pipeline is utilized to the maximum or the IOC completes the construction work of the Motihari Depot.

The corporation imported 40,000 kiloliters from the Raxaul depot and 60,000 kiloliters from the pipeline to supply more than 100,000 kiloliters of petroleum products from the Amlekhgunj depot last December.
