27 feared dead in Osaka building blaze

TOKYO:  At least 27 people are feared dead in a fire that broke out in a building in downtown Osaka, Japan.

According to local media reports, the victims had suffered “cardiopulmonary arrest,” after being suffocated in the thick smoke that led to their deaths.

Footage showed blackened windows after dozens of firefighters put out the blaze on the fourth floor.

All of those feared dead appear to have been in a clinic when the fire occurred.

Meanwhile, police are looking into the possibility that the blaze was deliberately started, said public broadcaster NHK.
