KATHMANDU: The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has urged Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana to display high level of ethical conduct to protect and maintain the decorum of the court.

Issuing a statement Wednesday, FNJ urged the court leadership, without naming CJ Rana, to display high level of accountability.

The statement read, “FNJ urges the court leadership to take the issues raised by the Nepal Bar Association and the questions raised from the grassroots level seriously and display high ethics to end the stalemate and protect the dignity of the court.”

FNJ also expressed surprise over the silence maintained by elected parliamentarians, government and political parties when the country’s constitutional body i.e Supreme Court is in turmoil for quiet some time.

FNJ also appealed to the parliament, government and political parties to take necessary initiatives to ensure dispute resolution at the apex court.

FNJ hold the view that the Supreme Court, which resembles the principle of separation of powers as envisaged by the Constitution, should be fair, dignified and credible.

Stating that it was unfortunate that the Nepal Bar Association had to resort to a struggle after questions were raised about judiciary’s leadership, FNJ also urged the agitating side to maintain dignity of the court.
