KATHMANDU: Three Nepali Congress (NC) leaders belonging to the Koirala family have held discussions about the 14th General Convention of the party Saturday.

NC central members Dr. Shekhar and Sujata reached General Secretary Dr. Shashank Koirala’s residence in Maharajgunj Saturday to discuss the party’s convention. All of them have declared they would contest the party presidency, among others.

Narrowing the race for NC presidency, the three Koirala’s are said to be trying to pick a common candidate from the family.

There also have been discussions to field a common candidate from among several candidates from the party’s establishment faction and rival factions in the upcoming convention slated for September 1 to 4.

From the establishment faction, incumbent party President Sher Bahadur Deuba announced another run for the leadership position alongside Vice President Bimalendra Nidhi.

Nidhi also took initiatives to hold three-round of discussions with two other aspirants – General Secretary Koirala and former General Secretary Prakash Man Singh. They all discussed to field a common candidate. Koirala, Singh and Nidhi are also the sons of NC founding leaders.
