NC President Deuba calls emergency meeting of office-bearers at 3 pm

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) President and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has called an emergency meeting of office-bearers at 3 pm at PM’s official residence in Baluwatar Saturday.

The meeting is slated to discuss the thrashing of NC central member and member of the active membership probe committee Shyam Ghimire Friday, said party’s Chief Secretary Krishna Poudel.

NC Sindhupalchowk cadres thrashed Ghimire Friday at Nepal-Bharat Maitri Pashupati Dharmashala in Gaushala, Kathmandu, over disagreements on the issue of active membership distribution. The probe committee is working based at the dharmshala for the past one month. Ghimire held NC Sindhupalchowk leader Mohan Basnet accountable for the thrashing.

According to Ghimire, 1,200 people have joined the NC from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party in Sindhupalchowk. However, the probe committee could not prescribe handing over active memberships to all of them after complaints were filed. The probe committee is preparing to recommend recognizing only active members of the 13th General Convention for participation in the 14th General Convention slated for September 1 to 4.

Ghimire was thrashed for not holding out active membership to those joining NC from other parties.
