KMC announces Rs 20 million assistance to Melamchi flood victims



KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has pledged Rs 20 million to flood-affected people of Melamchi and Helambu in Sindhupalchowk.

Mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya on Thursday while making public the policy and program of the metropolis for the coming fiscal year 2021/22 announced to provide Rs. 20 million as assistance to the people of flood-affected areas of Melamchi and Helambu. Mayor Shakya said the amount would be mobilized for the relief and rescue of flood victims.

Melamchi Municipality also shares sisterly ties with KMC.

Hundreds of people have been left homeless as floods on the Melamchi River swept through the areas.  Disasters also damaged roads, bridges and other public structures in flood-affected areas.

Melamchi Municipality is a sister city with Kathmandu Metropolitan City.

Earlier, KMC had signed a memorandum to provide Rs 15 million to build Melamchi City Park on the banks of the Indrawati River near Melamchi bazaar.
