Eight staffers of Melamchi project missing in Melamchi floods



KATHMANDU: Eight staffers working for the Melamchi drinking water project have gone missing in the floods induced by the monsoon in the Melamchi Bazaar.

Three Indians, three Chinese and two Nepali nationals are among those missing in the floods, informed Melamchi Water Supply Development Board.

A joint rescue team from Nepal Army, Armed Police Force and locals is searching them.

As many as 76 people have been airlifted to Dhulikhel from the construction site, said the Melamchi project. The condition of all those rescued is said to be normal.

The main tunnel of the Melamchi project, water purification center and the main dam have not been damaged.

However, the camps, equipment, construction materials, access road and bridges have been swept away.
