Family members to get 90 pc salary lifetime in case of death of worker in Malaysia

KATHMANDU: In case of the death of a Nepali worker in Malaysia, family members will get 90 percent of his or her monthly salary for the rest of their life.

Nepali workers working legally and registered with the Malaysian government’s social security fund will be entitled to the facility.

Executive Director of the Foreign Employment Board Rajendra Shrestha said that those who die or get injured on duty will also get long-term and short-term treatment expenses.

It has been more than a year since the Malaysian government enacted a law to provide social security to foreign workers. Earlier, there was no provision for Nepali workers.

The Malaysian government has already sent a letter to the Nepal government to give an official status to foreign workers under social security.

The services provided to the workers will be coordinated by the Foreign Employment Board.

Earlier, the board had been providing compensation to the families of Nepali workers who have died abroad.
