Bhagarathi murder case: Arrested schoolmate confesses to crime



KATHMANDU: Police have arrested Bhagarathi Bhatta’s schoolmate for allegedly murdering her after rape.

The law enforcement agency is preparing to make public the man who is also Bhagarathi’s neighbor through a press conference on Wednesday.

A police source claimed that the accused youth had confessed to the crime saying that he pushed the girl off a hill and then raped her after she got injured.

The post-mortem report had confirmed that Bhatta was also raped.

According to the police source, the man was nabbed from Eithpur of Bhim Dutta Municipality of Kanchanpur district and handed over to Baitadi police.

The arrested male had come to Mahendranagar a few days after the murder of Bhagarathi.

Bhatta, a 17-year-old student of Dogadakedar-7, Chadepani had gone missing while returning from school to her home on February 3.

She was found murdered after the rape and her dead body was recovered on February 4.

The accused said he executed the crime for revenge.

“There is an old feud between the two neighboring families. The accused has given a statement that he raped Bhatta in a rivalry related to her father,” said an official involved in the investigation.
