Provincial govt. committed to development of media sector: CM Raut

RAJBIRAJ: Chief Minister of Province-2, Lalbabu Raut, has said that the provincial government was committed to the development of the media sector.

At the 10th annual general assembly of the Saptari chapter of Federation of Nepali Journalists at Tilathi Koiladi rural municipality rural municipality-5 of Saptari district on Saturday, Chief Minister Raut opined that the role of journalists is significant at a time when the country is in crisis.

Saying good governance and prosperity could not be imagined in the country without the development of media sector, he stressed the need for the development of media houses.

CM Raut mentioned that the provincial government was serious towards the welfare of the media sector and journalists as well as their problems, saying the provincial government is going to forward activities for the formation of a separate media authority as well as a media council for the development of media sector.

He said, “Democracy will be safe only if the role of media is in the frontline.”

Similarly, Minister for Land Management and Cooperatives of Province 2, Shailendra Prasad Saha, said that the provincial government was committed to press freedom.
