Defense Minister Rijal organizing press conference at 4 pm today



KATHMANDU: Defense Minister and Nepali Congress (NC) leader Dr. Minendra Rijal, who has announced his resignation from his post, has organized a press conference at 4 pm.

Earlier, citing the preliminary result of vote count for the post of General Secretary at the party’s 14th General Convention, leader Rijal had announced his resignation from the post of Defense Minister.

“Considering the preliminary result of the votes that I received as the candidate for the post of NC General Secretary, I have decided to step down on the moral ground,” he said on his Facebook page.

Dr Rijal said he would submit his resignation to Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba as soon as the final result of the vote is announced.

He has got comparatively less votes than other contestants to the post of party General Secretary, including Gagan Thapa, Pradeep Poudel, Biswa Prakash Sharma.
