Nepal Bar Association to continue protesting against Chief Justice till Nov 19

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Bar Association has decided to continue the agitation demanding the resignation of Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana till November 19.

It also stated that if the Chief Justice does not resign by November 19 then the Bar’s agitation will expand to those 18 places where the High Court is hearing cases.

Officials of the Nepal Bar and the Supreme Bar had a discussion with 13 judges of the Supreme Court on Tuesday. A subsequent meeting of the Bar has decided to continue the agitation in the Supreme Court premises till November 19.

If CJ Rana does not resign by November 19, then Nepal Bar will deploy members from center to amplify protests in 18 places, including the High Court and where hearings of the High Courts are held. The meeting also decided that the Bar representative will not attend program attended by Chief Justice Rana, said Lilamani Poudyal, general secretary of the Bar Association.

According to him, the meeting has requested the Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba to hold a meeting of the Constitutional Council by excluding Chief Justice Rana and take initiative for his exit. It has also decided to hand over a memorandum to the leaders of the political parties in the parliament on November 3, urging them to take a decision regarding the stalemate in the court.
