SC refuses to issue interim order in Mahanta Thakur’s writ

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has refused to issue an interim order in the writ petition filed by then Chairman of Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Mahanta Thakur.

The division bench of Justices Deepak Kumar Karki and Dr. Anand Mohan Bhattarai, on Monday, dismissed the writ petition filed against Election Commission (EC) decision to call the Central Executive Committee (CWC) members of the JSP in person to show the majority in the rival groups of the party saying the writ was not worth issuing an interim order.

Earlier, in order to resolve the dispute over the official status of the Janata Samajwadi Party, EC had summoned the members of the CWC on July 26, saying that the members should be identified in person.

Challenging the EC’s decision, Mahantha Thakur had filed a writ petition on July 23 demanding interim order to stop the verification as sought by EC.

The EC had given Upendra Yadav faction the official status of JSP citing the majority members’ support to him on July 26.

Thakur had again filed a writ petition against the decision of EC on July 30.
