UML lawmaker Basnet calls Deuba-led govt “Ma Pa Se” coalition

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML lawmaker Mahesh Basnet has sniffed sarcasm over the incumbent government terming it as “Ma Pa Se” government.

Speaking at the House of Representatives (HoR) meeting Monday, Basnet said it would be appropriate to call the Sher Bahadur Deuba-led government as “Ma Pa Se” government instead of “Supreme Court verdict-made government”. He also gave reason to say so.

“Deuba formed the current government with the support of Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and UML senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal.” He referred to the initials of the three leaders ‘Ma’ of Madhav, ‘Pa’ of Prachanda and ‘Se’ of Sher Bahadur to form the world ‘Ma Pa Se’.

In Nepal, ‘Ma Pa Se’ is usually used to denote drunk driving.

Basnet also protested alleging that the ‘Ma Pa Se’ government was mulling to bring an ordinance to divide the UML after the parliament is prorogued. “If the government makes such decision then it will be a dark day in parliamentary history,” he said.
