Govt mulling to tighten prohibitory order as COVID-19 cases surge

‘Valley placed in red zone’

KATHMANDU: While the number of coronavirus infections is increasing day by day, preparations have been made to tighten the ban in the Kathmandu Valley.

Stating that the Kathmandu Valley has been placed in the ‘red zone’ by the health related bodies, the administration offices of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur are preparing to tighten the ban.

Chief District (CDO) of Kathmandu, Kali Prasad Parajuli, said that the health related bodies consider Kathmandu as the red zone of Coronavirus and as the number of infected people is increasing, the modalities of the ban are being tightened.

CDO Parajuli said that the situation was being analyzed as the pace of infection was increasing due to the general public ignoring the health safety standards issued by the government.

“Coronavirus infection cases are on the rise in the Kathmandu Valley. We have formed a monitoring team to monitor the health standards. We are also analyzing the latest situation. We are urging the general public not to crowd, use masks and not go out unless it is very urgent,” said CDO Parajuli.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, there are 8,579 infected people in Kathmandu, 1,319 in Lalitpur and 1,918 in Bhaktapur. In Kathmandu, 25 to 30 percent of those tested have been confirmed infected.

CDO Parajuli said that the administration was preparing to take necessary decision on the strictness of the prohibitory order by reviewing the additional infection cases as the rate of infection was increasing rather than decreasing.

“After analyzing the upcoming data on the infection, we will decide on the modalities of the prohibitory order,” said CDO Parajuli.

Currently, the Kathmandu administration has banned the operation of vehicles from 8 pm. The administration has made this decision as there will be more gatherings at night.
As the rate of coronavirus infections is increasing, the number of corona infected patients in private and government hospitals in the Kathmandu Valley has started increasing and the death rate has also started increasing alongside the number of infected people.
Earlier, a joint meeting of the CDOs of Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur had decided to maintain the ban till August 25. A restraining order was issued in the Kathmandu Valley from April 29.

According to the Health Ministry, about 10,000 corona are being tested daily. This test confirmed the infection in one out of every four people. According to the ministry, 20 to 25 percent infections are being confirmed daily in big cities including the Kathmandu Valley during the test.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has directed the concerned agencies to re-list the first and second phase of Corona Hospitals in all 77 districts saying that the third wave of Corona epidemic is likely to come.

As per the request of the Health Ministry, COVID-19 Crisis Emergency Center (CCMC) and Health Emergency Operations Center, the Ministry of Home Affairs has directed all 77 District Administration Offices to re-list and operate the closed COVID-19 isolation centers, hospitals and teaching hospitals across the country.
