KATHMANDU: A meeting of Nepali Congress (NC) office-bearers held in Baluwatar Friday has made three decisions with regard to the 14th general convention. It was the first office-bearers’ meeting held after NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba became the prime minister.
The meeting, which lasted for about four hours, focused on the 14th General Convention slated for September 1 to 4.
Discussions have been held on the progress of the inclusion committee led by Vice President Bimalendra Nidhi, the work of the central active membership investigation committee led by central member Ramesh Lekhak and finalizing the election guideline.
Giving information about the issues raised in the meeting, Ramesh Lekhak, coordinator of the active membership investigation committee, said that most of the disputes have been resolved. He claimed that the disputes were resolved in 75 districts.
The NC has 900,000 active members. Of these, about 48,000 belong to the Nepali Public Relations Committee abroad.
Leader Lekhak informed that the report of the probe committee would be submitted to party President Deuba soon. The active membership distribution was affected due to delay in internal adjustment work in Saptari and Bara.
According to him, discussions were held today on finalizing the election directive. Joint General Minister Prakash Sharan Mahat and Central Member Minendra Rijal have been given the responsibility to finalize the directive.
Leader Lekhak said that there was no discussion in today’s meeting about the vote of confidence by Prime Minister Deuba and the expansion of the cabinet. “It was just a convention-focused discussion,” he said.
