Karnali Province NC undecided on its role in PA

Waiting for party center's directions

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) is still undecided on whether to give a vote of confidence to Karnali Chief Minister (CM) Mahendra Bahadur Shahi or not.

According to an NC lawmaker in Karnali, the province committee of the party has not made any decision on whether to support or oppose incumbent CM Shahi in his appeal for vote in the assembly.

CPN-Maoist Center backed CM Shahi is trying to get the vote of confidence on Friday.

However, one of the key players in the prospective coalition against CPN-UML, NC is still undecided on who to support ahead.

“Our party has not made any decision on the issue yet, we are waiting for the directions from the party’s center,” an NC lawmaker told Khabarhub.

He expressed hope that they would get directions from party center by the time the floor is open for vote.

NC has got six lawmakers in Karnali Province Assembly.

In the 39-membered PA, UML has got 20 seats, the Maoist Center 12, and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has got one seat.

Provided the UML lawmakers do not cross the floor, UML itself has enough number to lead a majority led government.

After CPN-UML, withdrew its support March 18, CPN-Maoist Center’s Chief Minister Shahi was compelled to either resign or take ‘vote of confidence’ from the assembly.

The Province Assembly has been called for 2 p.m.
