It is certain now that general convention will be held: NC leader Thapa

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) central member Gagan Thapa has said it is certain that the general convention will be held now.

He said he became confident that the general convention would be held after attending the Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting of the party on Sunday.

Speaking at a program organized in Kathmandu on Monday to congratulate the Kathmandu Metropolitan Party Committee, Thapa said, “After yesterday’s meeting, we are confident that the convention will be held. The party has started booking hotels and halls for the convention.”

He said the party was finally holding the general convention after repeated pressure from the Election Commission.

“We were sure that the general convention would be held on time. If the Election Commission had not exerted tremendous pressure or if it was not necessary to submit the name of the new leadership to the Election body by mid-December, we might not have held the general convention,” he said.

He added that the NC would now be the first party only after its voter base swelled by 1.3 million votes. He said that work should be done to attract new voters to the party.
