Agitating lawyers stage protest against CJ Rana today as well

KATHMANDU: As part of the ongoing protests against Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana, agitating lawyers have continued their protest organizing a sit-in in front of the Supreme Court (SC) today as well.

They have decided to bar CJ Rana from entering the Supreme Court.

Nepal Bar Association has launched a nationwide demonstration against Rana from Sunday.

The agitating lawyers, who have been demanding the resignation of Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Rana, are protesting in 90 bar units across the country on Monday.

General Secretary of the Bar, Lilamani Poudel, said that they would continue to protest against Chief Justice by appearing before the Supreme Court from all the bar units in the Kathmandu Valley.

The bar has been protesting at the gate since Sunday, demanding that the chief justice be barred from entering the Supreme Court.

He said that there would be protests in all the courts across the country till 12 noon today.

The lawyers, who were staging a sit-in in front of the SC, said they are further irked after Chief Justice Rana entered the Supreme Court through the back door on Sunday as well.

Chief Justice Rana had on Sunday entered the office amidst a sit-in being staged by the lawyers at the main entrance of the apex court demanding the resignation of Rana.

Agitating advocates have maintained that they would rather die of hunger but not adjourn their protest until the exit of Rana.

“To stage a sit-in at the entrance does not mean that the other gate is open. Chief Justice Rana has entered the office through the back door, which is illegal,” Supreme Bar Association Chairman and senior Advocate Purna Man Shakya said.

He further said that the agitation which has continued for the last three weeks will stop only after Rana resigns from his post. “We will rather die of hunger but will not let out agitation die down.”

Nepal Bar Association has been staging demonstrations since October 31, demanding the resignation of Chief Justice Rana.
