KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Deputy General Secretary Bishnu Poudel has called Madhav Kumar Nepal’s party a group of self-serving people.
Addressing a gathering of UML Rupendehi cadres in Butwal Wednesday, Poudel said there was no need to worry about the split of the UML. “Madhav Nepal’s party is a bunch of selfish people, let’s not worry about such a bunch,” Poudel said. “Nepal’s party cannot win a single seat in the coming elections,” he claimed.
Poudel claimed that there was no ideological reason for the split in the party. “The division in the UML in 2017 was based on ideology and contained thorny national issues such as the Mahakali Treaty,” Poudel said, adding, “The recent split did not have any core agenda.”
He was of the view that the incumbent government, which has not been able to give full shape to the cabinet as two months passed, could do nothing.
Poudel said although the then Nepal Communist Party (NCP) tried to reunite after the Supreme Court’s decision last March, the UML spilt was due to Prachanda and leader Nepal ready to support the Nepali Congress.
“Prachanda’s ambition to be in power led to a split in the then NCP after he tried to capture the party by siding with him selfish elements such as Madhav Nepali,” Poudel said.
He claimed that the UML would show its strength from the elections and become the strongest party again.
