All sluice gates of Gandak Barrage opened



KAWASOTI: All sluice gates of the Gandaki Barrage have been kept open with the rise in water current in the Narayani River after incessant rain. All 36 sluice gates have been kept open after water current went above the risk level on Tuesday, said Chief District Officer of Nawalparasi-East, Manamaya Pangeni.

Over 200,000 cusec water was measured while keeping the sluices open. CDO Pangeni shared that the sluices have been kept open in coordination with the Indian side considering imminent risks stemming from rising water level in the territories of both Nepal and India.

It is to be noted that 250,000 cu sec water level is taken as the alert level and 300,000 cu sec as the danger level.

She said the sluice gates were kept open before the water level crossed the alert level. CDO Pangeni further said that the disaster management committee of the district has also been cautioned towards putting measures to mitigate possible loss and risks reflecting learning from past years.
