JSP’s Upendra Yadav faction to claim authenticity at EC again

KATHMANDU: Upendra Yadav of the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) is going to the Election Commission again claiming legitimacy as per Article 44 of the Political Parties Act.

According to sources, JSP Chairman Upendra Yadav faction, which had taken action against four senior leaders including another Chairman Mahantha Thakur, on the basis of the majority in the party’s executive committee, had requested to update the party details as per Article 51.

Another chairman, Mahanta Thakur, had also taken action against Upendra Yadav faction and applied to the commission for an update. The commission, however, denied both claims of both factions.

Earlier issuing a press statement on Tuesday, Yadav had expressed his dissatisfaction against the EC’s decision saying the decision was biased and raised serious doubts in a fair and neutral functioning of the commission.

“The decision taken by the Election Commission, the authority which was expected to function fairly and without any prejudice, is found to be biased and has drawn a serious concern about the neutrality and impartiality of the Election Commission,” Yadav’s statement said.

JSP had consulted the lawmakers close to the party seeking the suggestions about the steps the party has to take against EC decision on Tuesday afternoon.

The lawmakers have advised JSP leaders including Yadav to claim the authenticity in the Election Commission and file a writ at Supreme Court as well.
