JSP Chairman Yadav says PP has not decided its new leader

KATHMANDU: Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) chairman Upendra Yadav has said that the parliamentary party has not decided its new leader yet.

Speaking to the reporters in Kathmandu Saturday, Chairman Yadav said he has been working to retain unity in the party and his party has not made any decision on the parliamentary party leader in the federal parliament.

Earlier, Thakur-Mahato faction of the party had announced that Rajendra Mahato has been appointed as the JSP parliamentary party leader in the federal parliament.

However, Chairman Yadav faction has refused to accept Mahato as the PP leader and has claimed that the JSP’s parliamentary party meeting has not been called for the purpose.

“There are certain provisions of electing a person a parliamentary party leader,” he said, adding, “No meeting of the parliamentary party has made the decision to change its leader in the parliament.”

Yadav further said that a person cannot be accepted a party leader at his whims.

After May 10 special session of the House of Representatives, the intra-party conflict of JSP has come to the floor.

Speaking during the session JSP Chairman duo Mahantha Thakur and Upendra Mahato had expressed contradictory line of the party.

Thakur had said that his party would remain neutral in the vote of confidence proposal of the Prime Minister KP Oli; however, another Chairman Yadav had announced his party would vote against PM Oli.
