KATHMANDU: The Nepal-Khanal faction of the ruling CPN-UML is holding a central committee (CC) meeting virtually on Saturday.
UML senior leader Madhav Nepal has already briefed the central committee members close to him on the one-on-one meeting held with party chairman and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
The meeting is the continuation of the CC meeting convened on Friday, said central member Niraj Acharya.
“A zoom meeting is underway under the chairmanship of senior leader Madhav Nepal. Central Committee members are expressing their views in the meeting,” said Acharya.
The ruling UML which was on the verge of split took a new turn following the one-on-one meeting held between party chair Oli and senior leader Nepal at the residence of Captain Rameswor Thapa in Chapali Height recently.
On Thursday morning (May 13), CPN-UML Chairman Oli revoked the suspensions of Madhav Nepal, Bhim Rawal, Ghanshyam Bhusal and Surendra Pandey, signaling that he was flexible for party unity and that he had abandoned his previous tough stance.
The lawmakers of Nepal-Khanal faction abstained from tendering mass resignation after PM Oli and leader Nepal agreed to form a task force to restore party committees status back to May 16, 2018, and PM Oli agreed to scrap unilateral decision taken by the party in the past few months.
